Never, ever would I trust VAC with such a critical component to engine reliability. You couldn't pay me to put it on my car.

I don't trust VAC products at all, however I notice MisterEm has it in his stroker motor and that thing is my dream motor.. so it has me second guessing.

I bought the VAC bump steer kit recently and am 100% satisfied. Since we're just commenting on VAC in general now, and not in regards to OP's specific question about their oil pump...

A friend with a supercharged car has the vac pump, has had it for 4 years, no issues.

A lot of hate seems to be based on hearsay. I can understand if people have been burned that creates some skepticism but címon.

I'm local to them, so I get to see lots of their engines fail first hand

... and long ago saw their quality of work on my car.

... and see consistent sleazy behavior by the owner at CCA events.

VAC is a terrible, terrible shop. Consistently.

I went with a new factory pump when I did my rod bearings. A few builders I talked to said the factory pump does just fine unless you have a straight up race car or drift car.

I ran this pump on my race car for 2 seasons with no issues, and I will transfer into my new build.
They even took the time to put a weld where my chain had rubbed against the pump.

I must point out that if your pickup screen is damaged, they can't fix, or replace it.

At the time it was cheaper to do this upgrade than getting a new oem pump, or any other aftermarket unit.

I've always had great experience with VAC

I get your point, that being said, it still seems like a lot of the perpetuation comes from hearsay rather than first hand experience (maybe something to do with the forums).

Iíd be lying if I were to say I wasnít hesitant, but Matt Coyne (relatively local to VAC) has had some experience using their parts with no problems and recommended I use their pump. That being said my friend Adam (Clem from the M5 forums) has had first hand bad experience with them and recommends staying away. Both of those guys I trust fully with my motor so it just goes to show the variability of reputation.

*fingers crossed* I donít have to rebuild my motor again

The upshot about VAC from my perspective is that it does make some very nice, highly customized and very reliable parts, including race front control arms, the bump steer kit, the CNC Vanos exhaust hub, etc. When it comes to engine machining and building, however, I trust only myself and my partners.
