Default My Christmas present, an M3/4/5!

Wanted to introduce myself and my e36. I'm a long time lurker, but I finally found the right car, so I have finally dived into making a username and formulating a post. An M3 was my dream car ever since high school (these cars were brand new when I was in high school!) I come from the VW world, and have owned GTIs and a Golf R32. Up until now, my favorite car was a 1991 VW GTI with a VR6 stuffed under the hood. I was forced to sell that car due to space constraints about 5 years ago. I am thoroughly in love with my e36, and I think it is perfectly balanced between refinement and visceral thrills.

The details on my car: 1997 M3/4/5 in Alpine White with black interior. 117K miles, full Dinan suspension, intake, exhaust, and tune. BMW motorsports seatbelts, and Style 24s. As you can see from the pictures, this car is extremely clean. I intend on keeping the stripes on the side skirts, I think it adds a little bit of flair. The car has a lip spoiler from an e46, which I also like. I plan on adding yellow foglights, and keeping the amber lights. The only concern I have is the interior- it's immaculate! I need to read up on leather care to keep the seats in their current condition. I also plan on doing restoration as needed, and will be purchasing a steam cleaner a la' Braymond.

Please give me any feedback, and thank you in advance for all the help I'm sure to receive from this forum!

Welcome.

I too had a VW (93 Corrado) before getting into BMW’s. As cool as I thought that car was, the E36 is superior in every way. They make VW feel like garbage. You made a great decision.

The car looks great, the only thing I would lose is the flair .

Are your motorsport belts authentic? If you take a picture of the stitching at the end of the strap I can tell you if they are real or not.

Congrats on the purchase. My only ask is to see more pictures of that beauty.

Mad jealous of the manual. Mine is a automatic that needs to get changed ASAP.

Keep us posted on the progress...

Braymond, the Motorsports belts are not authentic, the previous owner obtained them from Bulgaria. I’d like to source authentic belts, but they appear to be difficult to find. Mike, thanks for the compliment, much appreciated. I will certainly keep you all updated!

Welcome! I'm also an ex-VW owner (8 of them).

I've seen your new car in person, great buy. I'd have to agree with Brett (Braymond), ditch the flair.

Another ex VW owner who never meets the minimum flair requirements. Congrats on the pickup. White sedan on style 24s is a great look.

Nice car! Small nit. Is it my eyes or has the rear M3 badge been replaced and the gap is too wide?

Really nice car. Love Alpine. I'd ditch the flair...it looks a bit ebay'ish. Keep the E36 period correct.

Leatherique has provided nice results on my seats. I've done it 2x and it's cleaned (restored the matte finish), softened them, and you can actually massage some of the minor cracks out. It's the only leather treatment I've used but the results were good enough that I did not look for anything better. I'm sure others will chime in with their procedures too.

Congrats on the purchase. Enjoy it in good health.

Congrats. I have a similar Dinan setup in my coupe, except I also have the throttle body. I hope you enjoy it.

One thing to consider - if you are keeping the amber corner lights, do you really want yellow fogs? Is that too busy? What about covering the OEM fogs with lamin-x amber foglight film to keep it consistent?

I'm with this guy. I held off getting the yellow fogs I wanted, because it just clashes badly with the amber.
