New owner here. The e46 is one of my favorite body styles ever on a car, I remembered when they first came out and I was younger it seemed unattainable due to the cost of said vehicle. Always remained one of my coveted cars and now that I am more financially secure I added one to the stable. I only have limited seat time in it and compared to my b8 s4 it is an entirely different feeling, but I am learning to love it and having fun already with refreshing some cosmetic stuff, car goes in for tint soon. and then mechanicals, wheels, suspension etc.

my s4 is faster, smoother and obviously more tech, but the m3 is raw, analog, loud and super fun to wind out!

anywhoo, hope to come here and parrot these same responses in about a year

Concur completely. The hotrod was stored for 6 months, have had him back on the road for but the past two weeks. First two times out he scared the hell outta' me!

Default My m3 seems to get better and better every year, am I crazy?

I too, am fortunate enough to store my M3 in the winter and really drive her in the warm months and on the weekends. I take a lot of pride in ownership and not only enjoy keeping her in top shape, I love the experience of driving the shit out of her when I get the chance.

Its inevitable that these cars depreciate and fall into the hands of those that donít take car of these cars like they should, but thatís a topic for another day, but to the OPís original topic, yes, these cars just get better as time goes on and I am glad to be part of the club that gets to participate.

PS what is up with the lack of comradery among other M car drivers? I canít tell you how often I come across other M4, M5 or M6 drivers that donít even bother to look over and acknowledge.

Few reasons I could think of

1. Your car may not be as nice as you say it is

2. Most e46 m3 on the road are beat up and cheaply modded, so new m owners may assume they’re all junk

3. A lot of new M owners aren’t BMW/M enthusiasts

In most cases M owners acknowledge when they see me and I try to do the same. But I could care less if they do or not.

It doesn't take a year. After I am out of town for a week or so driving a rental car, coming back home to drive the M3 is like the best feeling.

One time, heading up Dead Indian Memorial Highway, an enthusiastic E36 M3 flashed his lights. That was 10 years past, ever since, nuthin'. Except to enthusiasts these cars are invisible.
