The car has 121,xxx miles. As far as the clutch being original, I'm not to sure on that. My guess is yes. Reason being many of the parts I've replaced on the car have been OE BMW parts.

Thats kind of early for a clutch on an smg to fail, however it depends on driving style. Id let others chime in. Could be GPS but sounds like a clutch problem to me.

I'd rather have the clutch go out, instead of the SMG pump. In which case I would just opt for a 6MT swap.

i would first read the fault codes. you'll need something like INPA to read the bmw specific fault codes for the smg. standard ob2 reader will not work.

you can look up your fault codes here:

No doubt. That being said if it is clutch, stop driving it or else it will leave you deserted eventually when it truly fails.

Comp spring issues only cause a delayed shift, not so much a complete fail at a gear change no? Im sure my comp springs are weak as my 1st to 2nd drags sometimes, or it could be because I shift like a granny sometimes

Something similar to this happened to me yrs ago. I can't go into detail right now because I'm at work but long story short I had to replace my clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing etc.

I think it might be the clutch as mentioned...I have never heard an smg issue while getting kicked in 2nd gear
