Will the obc control display work at all for cars that didn't come with Factory navigation?

I know it's my car I control the OBC with the stalk button but I know on the navigation cars you could see OBC readout in the display.

I'm almost ready to get this unit but my car is not a factory navigation car so if it doesn't have the ability to control display OBC information because of that then I probably won't get it.

I have the factory PDC so I'm curious if and engages when you hit reverse like the factory PDC does? And automatically shows the PDC map? If it does that's really cool.

The knob feels quite nice. No slop, firm clicks.

Ian, This is AWESOME! I'd asked in the other thread if any of the OBC stuff worked and never saw a reply. I'll be doing this for certain. Not the first priority for 2018, but this coming year is going to be full of upgrades, so adding this to the list!
Seems I read about updating the factory flash in the other thread, so if not native, somebody will figure out a way to root it.

OBC will work fine. All the information is available; the navigation computer wasn't generating that itself. It was just reading the right messages. Now the AVIN is processing the messages (and actually getting you even more data than before).

PDC will still work, don't know if it will show the radar map automatically (it should be able to detect when reverse is engaged, but I don't know if it will). Obviously the front sensors won't show anything since E46s don't have front PDC.

How long is the warranty?

Does Avin make any commitment to keep the OS current?
Looks like its running KitKat from the screens which is 4 years old (the specs say its Marshmallow, but these screens look like it hasnt been updated from KitKat).

Think I'll jump on one of these units. I fried my Nexus 7 and need a replacement. If anyone really wants to save some weight removing all the speakers except the front components and adding a small sub in the back is the way to go. That minus all the brackets and NAV junk should be a decent weight savings with no sound penalty. Only thing I haven't removed is the harness only because I didn't want to rewire everything (including steering wheel controls and OBC communications) wonder how much that would actually save.

That's enough for me to pass.

I'll tweak the thread title as that happens.

My goals for this project are:
-remove ~40 lbs of wiring/brackets/modules
-add GPS filtering to the V1 (via YaV1)
-bluetooth music streaming
-Waze on the main screen, for police locations and traffic avoidance without having my phone out
-Harry's GPS lap timer on track
-dash cam running full time when the car is on
-ability to pull/reset codes on the fly

In the short term, some pictures I took after wiring it up on my "test bench" (car battery with a trickle charger, connect to the unit) that I took last night. This weekend I'm looking to upload some videos of the interface, for those that are interested.

Right now, just some pictures of stuff I found cool in a couple minutes of fiddling:

Radio tuner interface-- supports RDS

Tire pressure/temp display, which you can use with TPMS sensors. Actually could be quite a useful track feature!

OBC functionality retained (and expanded)

Button backlighting can be tweaked, if you're not happy with the stock setting (I haven't compared it in a car yet, but from pictures I've seen of others I don't know if I'll feel the need to tweak it)

My super janky "test bench"

More to come/change in the coming days....

I'm super pleased with this thing so far. The button presses and knobs feel nice, it doesn't look cheap anywhere, and it's very much stock looking-- just with much more functionality. Can't wait to get it in the car!

Quick question. I had factory nav before but bypassed all the old wires and ran an RCA cable to my amp in the back from my Nexus. Do I still need the harness for cars equipped with NAV? I want to make sure the Avon can still communicate with the OBC etc. Without the unit and harnesses in hand it hard to determine what I need. Your input is appreciated.

I'll let you know once I start digging into my car (removing wiring). I intend to have all functionality working with the least wiring required
