This is a dumb question, but how is it this unit allows for removal of all the stereo modules? Is it essentially software emulation, or does it come with the same hardware functionality built into the unit? Either way, this may cause me to spend another $800 this Christmas

Any sense of how hard an install this would be for a complete car audio novice?

It has all the functionality internal to it, be it through software or hardware.

I imagine the amp has to stay though?

Looks cool but so did the Avin 2. The issue was lack of support going forward. I had the 2 about a year after it came out and it was not a fun experience. Hope the 3 is better

No, the Avin has an internal amp. My plan is to connect the speakers to it directly.

Do you guys know where the factory GPS antenna is located? Apparently since my car came with Assist, it should have a GPS antenna despite not having nav. I wonder if the reception would be any better than just rigging the Avin antenna somewhere under the dash.

On that note, is there anything I need to buy beyond the navigation console trim to do the retrofit?

I like your style. Way to go. I would do the exact same thing, if I didn't want to limit my mods to only reversible ones. One of these days you are going to convince me to go all in and I'll get that CF roof and do the same thing you are doing with the stereo.

This is a very worthwhile mod if it can lose all that weight!!!

Man, this thing looks so badass. Pixels are starting to die on my factory nav screen, and I been wanting to add Bluetooth. Might have to order one of these.
