I probably take 10-15 Uber rides per week.
I'm with stiggy. Never ubered and don't cab unless travel. We are planning to use the Uber in Italy. But public transportation ftw.

I never uber unless it's to a work or social or personal thing.

So, pretty much every time you go somewhere?

Was your shitty Uber experience still better than the standard taxi ride?

Maybe I've just been fortunate, but even the bad Ubers have been preferable to almost every taxi fare I've ever had.

Yes. First one, the app's GPS picked up a cross street, and not the address where we were standing. I texted the guy to let him know where we actually were. He called. I repeated where we were. His fkn pidgin English couldn't compute, so I had to repeat myself and what had happened four times. When he pulled up, he said "why you so confuse." "The confusion wasn't on this end pal, maybe you ought to f..." and my boss thankfully intervened.

From hotel to SFO, mild annoyance was the guy who had massive carseat and stroller in his boot, but wouldn't help move any of it so I could get my luggage in. I eventually just slung the shit wherever it would fit and squeezed my bags in there as best I could.

Third one was when I got home. I called for the car, the guy texted to find out which pickup point I was at, and where I was going. I very politely told him the former, and indicated the destination should be in the app, but gave it to him anyway. He told me his "Uber app" was malfunctioning and I'd have to re-request a new driver. I did this, and ended up with him again. He told me to wait 2-3 minutes else it would pick him up again. I did, and got him again. Waited five minutes, then got a new driver, who took over 10 minutes to move two miles. Was watching him literally crawl to my location, and traffic was moving without issue. End to end, what should've been a 10 minute trip took around 45 minutes. When I got home, I saw a $5 cancellation fee for the first idiot. I had it reversed, but still.

And taxis are much better with college educated English native speaking polite drivers with clean cars, and cheaper in every case.

Self driving cars are great...for those that resent having to direct their attention to driving a car. To each his own, but how many activities in life can be more exhilarating than driving a car?
