I absolutely loved reading this thread. We are similar, but you are taking it to the next level! I wish I could. Hope I can one day.

Check out my InstaGram. I restore cars as well. I'm leftfordeadcars

I mainly buy cars that are very inexpensive and then I clean them up as much as I can but I keep a budget in mind. For example, if the car I buy goes for around $7000 in normal running condition and I buy it for $2000 not running, I will give the car a $5000 budget for the rebuild/restoration.

Subscribed to your thread.

Oh, if you have IG, please subscribe to me so I can follow you as well!

No offence but I looked at your Instagram and it looks like you just have a bunch of scrap cars, nothing looks restored at all.....

What exhaust are you planning on running with the S54?

S54 section 1 to a modified section 2 that mates up to the Dinan. I’m concerned the Dinan may not flow enough so I’m considering a replica E36 M3 Grp N that I will make out of a stock muffler (same as BMW did and they are substantial in flow).

Does that consist of gutting the stock muffler internals?

I'm just curious as most s54's that I've heard with aftermarket exhausts sound very raspy.

I had the OEM exhaust on my 2004 and thought it had a decent sound.

My e36 m3 s54 doesn't sound to raspy but maybe a bit, And that's euro headers, e46 section 1 and 2 with muffler. Here's a sound clip/vid. I've had nothing but compliments on the sound.

It's funny you posted this question. 30 minutes after, I see this on Craigslist: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/ws...699655458.html

Sort of on gutting. BMW changed all of the tube sizing and used a straight shot perforated pipe in the muffler.

Grp N shown above the SS. Pics courtesy of TwentySeven. Jim E now owns the exhaust and some where I have better pics of the internal muffler portion. You should be able to tell the pipes are much larger than the standard box (that SS next to it is what OEM size is) and instead of the double walls on the muffler box, they use only a single.

Wow, that Grp N looks beefy next to the SS! It'd also be nice to keep it complete OEM+.

On the other hand, that $700 CL find doesn't look too bad either.

Except the “professional” TIG, “back purged”, welds look like crap.

I’ve been wanting to do an OEM Grp replica for a long time, good excuse now.

That's definitely not ideal.

I'm excited to hear how the Grp N replica turns out!
