Just curious to see if you have driven an E36 w an S54? I havent, just wondering the desire to buy one. This will be really hard to find but of course, be patient and the right car will pop up. My only fear is finding one without any cut corners in a configuration you like. I think starting with a 3 series and not even installing M3 mirrors are 2 corners cut that dont make any sense to me. Even if you got the 328 for free, after you source all of the right M3 parts its going to cost more than a nice donor M3/4.

That 22k price is tough because I am sure he has more into it than 22k, however I dont know if the market would yield that kind of money for a hacked 328 thats hellrot, has 4 doors and its not an M3 to begin with.

I am definately not knocking the seller, just thinking out loud. Anyway good luck with the search if I see anything pop up I will link back to it, but I just spent maybe 8 months looking for a specific M3 and I dont recall an E36 Coupe w an S54 ever popping up.

Wait, OP wants clean and done correctly, but $22k is too much?

OK.

OK.
Yeah, I have to agree. Mine will be quite a bit more money and I'll be lucky to recoup what I have invested. Although mine is a true M3 with much more into it and different level of "no corners cut".

I would agree. I would expect to pay 30k to 35k for a well documented car done via my definition of no cutting of corners. I just cannot see how you can possibly put the money into fabricating a good clean donor E36 M3 with an S54 motor for anything less than 30k, that assumes a good donor M3, a good donor S54 and all of the little fabrications that go along with it.

To add to that, finding someone that HAS done this normally has no need or desire to actually sell such vehicle. I know if I took on such project I would have a lot more ducks in a row well before it was even a thought to have to sell.

So yea, OP you may want to consider the 328 or go back to the drawing board.
