I'd love to run MAP if its guaranteed to be able to connect to smog center computers. so far it seems like it depends on the smog testing centers themself if they got the updates to connect to it.

Flash it back and forth so you only have to run alpha-N for inspection day. I started a thread a couple weeks ago about CSL DME and inspection in which TerraPhantm posted how to modify the US tune to work on the CSL DME with regular flashing tools.

What's the benefit of having to go through those extra steps?

Stock US and CSL software are not interchangeable except with a BDM bench flash setup. Modified tunes let you use a tool like MSSFlasher to write working versions back and forth so your tune is guaranteed to work with the emissions computers but can be a CSL MAP tune every day except inspection day

aren't you limited to how many flashes you can do w/ the DME before it bricks itself? iirc it was like 16 times or so.

Yessir. MSSFLasher is a must have if you mess with tuning. Very fast flashing (literally often times in seconds to completion) and it's the only tool I'm aware of that reset the flash counter.

You mean “Reset Flash Count” not “Virginize” DME as that would erase everything.

Doh! Yes, exactly this. Thanks, editing my previous post to avoid confusion.
