I’ve seen the same setup for E36 vent.

Told the guy it would be nice to have matching dot-matrix displays instead of 7-segment LCD.

Good call, will check if it’s available to have on the gauges

I might be keen but I'd need to see a finished e36 product first I think. The pics above look good but that doesn't necessarily translate.

Where do you anticipate they'd fit? Any further thoughts on a matching dot matrix display?

I'd want oil pressure, oil temp and possibly A/FR.

100% needs to be in metric rather than rocks and pebbles.

Unfortunately my supplier doesn’t have dot matrix.
As far as the E36 application, it will look exactly the same as the E46 except in the E36 vents.

The e36 has a single, asymmetrical centre vent and the side vents are also asym... so it won't be able to look the same as the e46 version, it will need to be e36 specific, for the centre the panel will need to be much wider. Although I'd probably prefer the RHS vent (RHD car).

This is why I'd want to understand what you had planned.

I'd likt to know where the gauge gets its data from. Don't need an extra oil temp to install somewhere. It should be read directly off the DME, although I have a feeling this may not be the case.

That's where the OpenOBC could've (should've?) been the ultimate solution. 100% factory look, with option of displaying all DME data.

M3AN: don't have it at hand, on IG there is a pic of the E36 version of this setup. Much better than the ugly prototype Awron gauge solution.

Actually, 90's perfection for additional info was that VDO addition in front of the cluster... was that in some ACS cars? I saw one with cables but no sensors (not sure if they used stock sensors) go on eBay for EUR1000 in about 2014... ouch.

But back on topic, still interested in more details on the option here. I don't have a problem if there's still stuff to work out, that's to be expected and am happy to contribute to the discussion.
