Default BMW E36 M3 GT: The M3 Masterpieces Ep.2 | Carfection

I really like his reviews, very Chris Harris-esque

It's a shame that car is missing it's original GT wheels.

It's a rare occasion when an E36 M3 gets a proper review, but when they do the reviews always seem very underwhelming. Are these cars really so bad that the best he could muster was that it wasn't as bad as he was expecting? A good engine, but otherwise worse in every way compared to the e30...bigger, heavier, slower turn in, etc. At least he mention that they competed in FIA GT/IMSA, although no mention of how well they did. The downforce from the wing breaks the boot-lid latch??...these cars must be trash.

Maybe I've been driving a modified one for too long, but I don't get the lack of praise. I'm sure when he does the e46 CSL it'll be hailed as godly.

The trunk latch does break, and if he wanted to call the car trash, just simply mention the door card issues with Coupes.

But from down-force produced by the wing? I thought latch failure was from the force of repeated slamming of the trunk often exacerbated by the extra trunk weight when a wing is installed.

Possibly both. I wouldn't highlight the how, it still breaks regardless.

I shake my head every time I read this.

There are two ejecters/dampers on each side of the lid. These take all force. Or at least they should. They also limit travel of the bootlid (trunk).

The catch can be adjusted, as can the ejecters. If all adjusted correctly (see TIS for procedure) the lock will not act on the catch.

If not, then yes, the lock will slam on the catch, eventually bending the metal.

Regarding the E36, it’s always been the ugly duckling. The CSL coming after was so good, and the E30, well I never understood it’s fame, other than being the granddaddy M3 and a true homolgation special.

Beautiful GT and great video. Every time I see a GT, it makes me want to keep my GT wing in the low position (not that I have a choice right now, since I don't have risers).
