no codes returned...still has the intermittent stumble on startup. has gotten better with cold weather now and does it less often. but it feels sluggish intermittently still then will rip when i hit the gas a second time...i give up lol.

Well, new ignition coils installed (eldor) now itís extremely fast...when it works

So far we have;

Vanos seals
Exhaust hub
Timing chain guides
Valve adjustment
Plugs
Coils
TPSís
ECT sensor
Crank sensor
Lubed/cleaned throttle actuator and throttle bodies
FPR and filter
Fuel injectors
Vanos solenoid repair and valve body cleaning

Now only fault codes I keep getting is a crankshaft position sensor and not triggering CEL/ shows not active fault when I have the hard start/long crank. Thing is I replaced it with a OE bmw sensor. Pinpoint test shows crank sensor is good.

Also have a fault for EGT sensor but thatís irrelevant. Had it since I bought it years ago.

Intermittent power loss still and screams every other throttle hit...

About to just sell it and get an e92.

So a bit of an update, left the car parked for a while and been daily driving the e38 750il, but anyways after doing some research the 2 main codes that are hard codes and not going away are for the E-box fan and the EGT sensor. ordered both will report back after replacement if it fixes it.

after doing a bit of research and looking at wiring diagrams...looks like the DME has an internal temp sensor vs. non ///M vehicles that have one sitting inside the ebox seperate. if this gets overheated can cause all sorts of issues. well....the ebox fan is on the same circuit as the crank sensor and fuel injectors. so if its shorted/causing a draw that and the dme getting hot could be the source of my random hot starting issues. as well as lack of power. looks like this is a failure more common on the e39 m5 but the dme and wiring is very similar on these vehicles and others have reported back just swapping the ebox fan has resulted in power gains and running as it should again with that code present.

fingers crossed. will update once everything is installed. narrowed it down to these two items. harness and sensors are all good now...

talking to myself on here....but replaced the egt sensor (you can replace it from up top parked in the driveway btw, no need to remove the lower plate just remove engine cover, disconnect coolant pipe and bend out of way, remove secondary air valve, and upper heat shield/bend lower out of way and you can fit a 17mm on it and out it comes)

cleared codes, none return. car is back to roasting tires. fuel trims back to normal as well. no longer running rich.

even after the "update" we were supposed to have for an emissions campaign years ago that supposedly bypasses this sensor/doesnt set off a cel....dme still uses it for fuel mixture. i still have stock headers so i figure instead of coding it out id just replace it and so far so good. will report back with the ebox fan once it arrives. hopefully will have this pos back to normal.

Installed ebox fan. acceleration/power is back now even in mid day heat. no longer bogging down or randomly loosing power. will report back if this fixed my issue with hot starting.
