Hey man! Do you still have that old I-Bus interface I made for you? I kind of scrapped the hardware side of the project after the tablet got so hot it almost caught on fire (Vegas heat...)

Anyways, here's my "semi working" prototype. I'm waiting on a CD53 to show up so I can test further:

And here's the GitHub repo, not that there's much there yet.
https://github.com/tedsalmon/BlueBus

The extent of this has been plugging the module into the car and getting audio to output. The end product should be smaller than the red board pictured.

Do you mean, have the unit turn off when the key is removed?
Exactly, as in nothing is being powered once car is off. One thing I hated about the firefly is it needed that usb charger which keeps charging even when car is off. Iím sure yours wonít do that, but something I look for with new system along with the issues I brought up with my Grom fixed.

The harness Iím tying into doesnít have switched 12v by default, but Iím considering looking elsewhere in the trunk harnesses for it.

At the very least, I would power down the Bluetooth chip when the key is removed, but I would have the keep the I-Bus transciever and MCU powered so they could monitor the I-Bus for the ďkey insertionĒ message. The good thing, though, is that both the I-Bus transciever and the MCU have stupid low power requirements ó something on the order of 40mA, which is nothing. Funny thing, most of the modules in our cars stay powered on even after the vehicle is shut off.

Anyways, donít worry ó I donít want a ďDICEĒ situation where the module keeps killing the battery

I'm working on something similar but I'm also going to use a data only sim card so I have an internet connection and using the Google cloud APIs for text to speech and speech to text so I can have full voice menus. Good luck with your project. It sounds like you are a bit further along than me. I'm still fighting bluez, pulse audio, and ofono.

If so, that would definitely make my module an improvement.
If your solution maintains a consistent connection it's an improvement.
