Default 2019 Audi A6 Revealed

Fake exhausts keep coming, tuners love it. That interior...

Audi has unveiled the all-new A6 following a leak earlier today.

Set to become one of the star attractions at the Geneva Motor Show, the redesigned model follows in the footsteps of A7 and A8 as it adopts a stylish design with “taut surfaces, sharp edges and striking lines.”
Starting up front, there’s a wide Singleframe grille which is surrounded by large air intakes and angular headlights. Speaking of the latter, the A6 will be offered with three different headlights including range-topping HD Matrix LED lights that have five lines that create a distinctive daytime running light signature.

Moving further back, the model has been equipped with sportier bodywork and new character lines which give the sedan a more muscular appearance. Continuing to the rear, there’s an integrated rear spoiler and optional LED taillights with nine vertical segments.

Audi says has a drag coefficient of as little as 0.24 and notes the car will be offered with “two sport and design exterior trim lines as well as the S line exterior package.”

Overall, the A6 is slightly larger than its predecessor as it now measures 4,939 millimeters (16.2 ft) long, 1,886 millimeters (6.2 ft) wide and 1,457 millimeters (4.8 ft) tall with a wheelbase that spans 2924mm (9.5 ft). Thanks to the increased dimensions, the all-new model offers more rear seat legroom as well as additional head and shoulder room.

The cabin largely carries over from the A7 and this is a good thing as features a futuristic design which combines high quality materials with numerous metallic accents. In range-topping models, drivers will find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment system and a lower 8.6-inch display which provides access to climate control and other convenience features. The car has also been equipped with all-new seats which offer heating, ventilation and massage functions up front.

Speaking of options, there’s an impressive list of choices that includes a panoramic glass sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system and an optional air quality package which includes an ionizer and fragrances diffuser. The company will also offer an Audi connect key which uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology as well as two ambient lighting packages that promise to make “the dashboard and center console appear to float.”

Anyone else notice the car in the leaked photos happens to be a TDI? Is that really something Audi wants to remind everyone of during their new car launch?

VAG group is looking to cut cost by having a single exterior design for all their sedans, obviously.

Looks better than the new 5 inside and out, but I think the new E is still best in class.

because in Europe like 70-80% of the German cars are diesels....

Also all the germans are guilty for for making models which look like different sized version of the same sausage...

I know that, but I thought ever since Dieselgate happened VAG was trying to push hybrids and electric cars as their new, greener future? Perhaps VW isn't trying to divorce it's image from diesels as quickly at I had thought it would.

At least the generic Audi corporate sedan look as a rather good one, albeit not particularly exciting either. The same can't be said about certain other luxury manufacture's "corporate looks"... looking at you, ridiculous Lexus grille.

Following in the path of the recently redesigned range-topping A8 and the sporty A7 hatchback, the new mid-size Audi A6 sedan is based on the MLB Evo architecture and adopts the brand’s latest styling themes, which are intended to move beyond the boxy and less appealing designs seen on the current A4 and Q7.

The proportions and shapes of the A6 have been preserved, including the arched roofline that has become an Audi signature, while the new model is only fractionally bigger than its predecessor (0.3 inch longer, 0.5 inch wider, and 0.1 inch taller). The front end has become more angular and is a little more complex than even the new A7 and A8 designs. In back, the haunches are accentuated with a crisp fold reminiscent of the original Audi Quattro, while the wide taillights feature a futuristic, sculptural look.

The horizontal character line on the flanks curves inward and drops at both ends, which makes the car look wide when viewed from an angle and highlights the long-hood/short-deck theme when seen in profile. Wheels are sized from 17 to 21 inches; we expect 18s will be the smallest offered in the United States.

According to Audi, there’s more rear legroom, and head and shoulder room are increased in both front and rear. More impressive is the techno-futuristic cabin design, essentially identical to what we’ve seen in the A7 and distinguishing the A6’s interior from its competitors by the generous use of glass and aluminum. An optional ambient-lighting system offers a choice of 30 colors. The available four-spoke steering wheel seems more fitting for a premium sedan than the pseudo-sporty three-spoke wheel. The materials look extremely modern throughout, and the head-up display is far better integrated than on the current model.

The A6’s pretty surface hides cutting-edge technology. The MLB Evo architecture is designed for front- or all-wheel drive and offers optional all-wheel steering. There are four different suspensions, depending on the market: a standard steel-spring suspension, a lowered Sport version, another with adaptive dampers, and an air-spring setup also fitted with adaptive damping.

While Europe will see a plethora of diesel offerings, the U.S. will have a choice between two gasoline engines: a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four producing around 250 horsepower and a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 good for 340 horses. The latter pairs with Audi’s S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which also serves the only four-cylinder offered at launch in Europe, a turbo-diesel. Audi may employ a conventional eight-speed automatic with the 2.0-liter gasoline four, as it does today. An S6 with a stronger twin-turbo V-6 will follow later. All A6 models will have electrically assisted powertrains; they can recuperate kinetic energy under braking and are fitted with an ultra-quiet belt-driven starter/generator to facilitate stop/start technology.

In Europe, the new A6 sedan launches in early summer; we expect it to come out in the United States in late 2018 as a 2019 model. With this new sedan, competition has gotten a lot more interesting again: Next to the luxurious Mercedes-Benz E-class and the somewhat conservative BMW 5-series, the Audi A6 is once again the coolly elegant, technology-driven alternative.
