If you really want to finish off that engine, don't address the oil pump nut. It certainly toasted mine.

Other then that, looks like great progress.

I am pretty sure the two ducts are for water drainage. This is so that water won't start leaking into the DME compartment or the interior.

Wow, that a real riches to rags then back to riches story.
I remember many moons ago the dealer I serviced my GTI at had a cherry 92 Jetta in the lot that had been sitting for some time. I asked about it and was told the manual trans was toast and it I could have it for 200 bucks if I hauled it away. Long story short, the drive shafts were dry and locking up.
A few bucks later I had a cherry 92 Jetta I would drive for many years to come.

$300 M3 + Vorshlag LS1 kit + LS1 = WIN!

That's what I would do if I found a thrashed M3 for $300.
