Personally, I would splurge for the Rancilio Rocky, but that's only because I have it and can't imagine having a better grinder. I have had it for a year and it just CRUSHES beans. Trillion settings and built like a tank. It is unbelievably heavy.

I will probably buy a Technivorm soon. This damn Bunn will not die.

Also, in case anyone is wondering, yes, I still roast my own coffee every 4-5 days. I have been getting into blending beans.

He just bought a house and needs to still buy a subwoofer

I think that’s more geared towards (hardcore needs for) the espresso spectrum - but I’ll agree that thing is amazing.

PS I hate my Bunn.

Subwoofer comes after grinder. I want to hate my Bunn, but it has made pretty good coffee for like 13 years.

...I don't have any plans at this time around buying an espresso machine so I will prob go the Virtuoso route (almost picked up refurbished from Baratza, but waiting for a subwoofer first )

F**k that, he can hang grind his beans with great results — do you expect him to make subwoofer sounds with his own mouth while watching movies!?

Default Does Anyone Roast their own coffee?

Re Bunn:

It physically works - in terms of heating water and pouring it *rapidly* down - but if it sits for more than 2 days without being used - the reserve tank looses water due to heat so when you add 8 cups of water to make a batch... you get a random amount less than that (6? 5? No way of telling).

It also constantly overflows grinds into the pot; all over the sides; underneath the machine - “well you’re overfilling it then”

Yeah well I’m sticking to the Golden coffee-to-water ratio and only doing a 3/4 pot and it still exhibits these issues.

On to the taste? Even with top quality beans, hand ground perfect consistency, filtered water, and balancing the fussy overflow issues: it tastes about as good as a cup from Denny’s.

Avoid like the plague.

If you really want to squeak by as cheaply as possible, a refurb Baratza Encore could probably get you by... but the Virtuoso is a relatively recent release and highly touted to be the best value in an electric burr grinder.
