Question 225/40 on Stock Front 18" Wheels?

I know that the proper tire size for the front 18" wheels is 225/45ZR18. But does anyone know if it's OK to install 225/40ZR18 instead?

I ask because I want to buy the Michelin Pilot Super Sports at Costco but they don't carry the 225/45ZR18, only the 225/40ZR18.

Thanks!

i'm running the 225/40 on a e9x wheel (8.5" wide).

bit too stretched for my liking (i dont like stretch at all actually) but does the job fine.

I run 225/40-255/35 with spacers. My car is lowered. It works for me, but on a stock ride height car, it will look silly

If you are using stock suspension should be able to go with 245/40x18 and 265/35x18 with stock rims and no rubbing. I don't think difference on tire price is substantial.
