that sucks bro! Get one that's concealed in the ashtray. Pretty sure Escort sells them....

if you search the forums (and google), you'll see some ideas include using the motion sensor enclosure on the headliner, using a motion sensor enclosure on the rear decklid (see radar-mirror.com for their pre-made version) or in headrests. all these options reduce (or eliminate) the detectors ability.

good luck.

Detectors can be disassembled and modular parts extended to various parts of the car by someone with advanced solder skills / experience.

In Ontario, you really have few choices. The Bel STi is one. It's not the best detector, but it is a very good one. It's not as easy to use in the real world at the V1. It is a very expensive detector, especially if you opt for the remote version. For use in Ontario it has one overriding advantage: the VG2 detector detector used by the OPP cannot see it. Visual identification is the only thing that gives it away (that includes user error, like slamming on the brakes).

I don't know if they still make them, or remember what brand it was, but my first car (vw scirocco 16v) that I bought used, had the radar detector module mounted behind the front grill, and a remote speaker unit wired and mounted low on the bottom of the dash. It was totally stealth and worked good too. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. The car came from a state that radar detectors were Illegal.

I also have a Bel STi. I had a window-tint buddy of mine cut a small piece that is installed near my rear view mirror. When the radar detector is mounted behind the tint, it's impossible to see what's behind it. Been two years and haven't had any issues with OPP.

they don't use VG2 in canada. they use the spectre RDD, much more modern and sensitive than the VG2. even the V1 is detectable by the spectre. and they have adjustable gain so they can pinpoint your car out even if it's hidden. the only RD manufacturers that make spectre-proof RD's are beltronics and escort.
