BTW: for those who need a breakout box, PXA-H100, or a JL XD700/5, please PM me. I've decided to go a different, lower tech (like me) route with my X5's sound system. All are almost new with little use. Ian is correct, there is a (very) noticable difference between having the PXA-H100 on and off. Substantial.
It actually sounds way better. The last sub wasn't the optimal impedance for the amp, so I didn't get everything out of it that it could have delivered. This sub is less powerful, but I can use it 100% correctly, with the result that it sounds significantly better overall

Are you running all this off stock battery/alternator?

Smaller battery than stock, stock alternator.

... I wouldn't be surprised if I had less power draw than stock, though.

How many amps are you running? 2 or 3?

I love Polk speakers and also have 2 stealth subs to install. I see the Polk tweeter but are you using that other tweeter looking thing too?

Two very small amps (lighter than the 2 factory amps I removed).

I'm just using the Polk tweeters. Two Polk mids, two Polk tweeters, one <5 lb sub. :P

Oh ok so one amp to run the speaker set and one to run the sub?

What kind of power are they putting out?

I know you are trying to keep it lightweight but Im wondering if I do something slightly bigger will it draw too much from the battery/alternator. I know in my old car I had to upgrade just to handle one 4x125 (rms) amp.

You pretty much have the same speaker sets Im gonna be using...I may add the other stealth sub. How good does that one sub sound?

Hey Guys,

Not too many threads or information on E46 M3 audio upgrade (Looked in different forums). After reading few other forums I got some basic information and might need some help from M3 forum members here.

I want to upgrade audio in my car. I have an E46 M3 Coupe with basic Hi-Fi, Navigation and Bluetooth.

What impedance are our stock speakers ? I read 4 ohms and somewhere I read 2 ohms.
Can I use Stock amp if I use same impedance speaker ? I want to use 4 ohms speakers all around and want good sound. My budget is $200 per pair for speakers, as of now I might buy 2 pairs and one amp ($300/$400). Also one sub if I can install without using trunk space. I am not adding anything now just want to play stuff from my iphone via Bluetooth.

I am thinking of buying DLS speakers, 4 Channel Apline amp and maybe alpine processor. What all things do i need. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I should have done this with my Hybrid Audio Technologies (HAT) 6.5 Imagine speakers I put into the X5. It would have necessitated me buying a bench grinder () and actually taking the time to do it ().

Instead, I lopped off the top of the X5 speaker door mount and made a mechanical connection to it and the HAT speaker using the HAT speaker mountain holes and screws. Good news is that it sounds fantastic! Bad news is it wasn't as neat and tidy as your install, Ian.

Hey Obi, any chance you can make a video of what that one sub sounds like inside the cabin?

I have some stealth boxes but need speakers and would be great to actually hear it in action. Surprisingly, I couldnt find any videos on youtube.

I don't think that would be overly useful, honestly. Using the sound processor, I could bias that to sound however I wanted. Recording as is would just show my personal preference.

You semi local to pa? Could check it out in person and set it however you like.
