Default Intake information

ok guys.. i wanna get everyones ideas on the intake they have so i can put them into the FAQ area so we don't have to keep answer ?'s.. jus tbe honest on whatever u think was tough with install, the sound, etc.. then we can get it all compiled and have info for the newbies.. thanks

MANUFACTURER - Jim Conforti

STYLE - Short ram with heatshield

ADVANTAGES - lets engine breathe easier giving more power, nice grunting sound, easy install because no removal of bumper , easy to clean ITG foam filter with greasing element, carbon fiber piping, fiberglass heatshield, will still fit with euro ellipsoids unlike dinan.

DISADVANTAGES - pricetag (400$), had to cut part of heatshield so it would fit under hood and adjust hood properly..

list any problems u had in the DISADVAN section and we can try and compile it all.. this will be reformed into a single thread and then placed in the FAQ section.. thanks guys..

Intake: Benfer 3-piece design with AEM bypass valve and K&N filter.

Style: DINAN style True CAI that sits in the bumper above the brake duct.

Advantages: Gets a slightly better source of fresh clean air if you cut holes in the brake duct. Filter is completely out of the engine bay where the hot air is and does not require a heatshield. Under $200 for the three piece unit so price is great. It cleans up the engine bay a bit more as the filter is not seen. Great sound.

Disadvantages: Installation and Maintenance. You have to remove the bumper to install and remove the bumper again about once a year or so to clean. If you are good, the bumper can be removed in about 20 minutes, but takes slightly more to put back on and line everything up. Potential Hydro-Lock if you happen to get caught in a flash flood. If filter becomes submerged in water, it will ingest it into the engine. Your bumper pretty much has to be underwater for this to happen, but it has happened for DINAN owners. The AEM bypass valve solves this problem. Finally, without a little modification to the Euro lights, they are a very tight squeeze. It works fine with the US lights.

Upcoming changes: The 3-piece unit will be discontinued and a once piece aluminum one is coming out with a better bracket and small heatshield to completely isolate the filter from the engine. Price will be a bit more. Also a one piece carbon fiber unit is coming out that will be cheaper than DINAN and priced around $350. Nice eye candy.

Intake: Pham Air Research (PAR) Cold Air Intake http://www.phamairresearch.com/index.php

Advantages: Very similiar to the Jim Conforti intake but half the cost! The installation is very easy and straightforward.

Disadvantages: None that I know of other than the fact that it is not as proven as the Dinan or Jim Conforti intakes.

By the way, even though the PAR intake will probably have identical gains as the JC, it will not look quite as nice in the engine bay. However, if price is a major consideration, you can't go wrong with the PAR. If you have the $, the JC will look much better than the PAR.

I have the AA and love it. Costly, but beautiful. Easy to install and from what little I have seen it has the best heat shield going. Not as far down as some of the longer ones, but still only a few inches shy of being down in the well. After moving the horns and cutting two holes in the brake duct I don't think it makes any difference in performance. Also has a very nice look to it. ~X~

Since you're going to reformat this anyway...

Adding URL for the manufacturers will be very useful as well.

Nice idea lads!

yes a pic would be great. two would be better, ie one of just the intake and then one of it installed in the car.

No pics of the intakes, just a big blowup of the girl in M3AN's reply and a super sized squirt gun for everyone.
