Default Bought new Used 97 M3 - Keys arent matching

So I purchased an 1997 M3 Sedan over the weekend. And the door keys, ignition, and the Trunk release key doesnt match.
What is the best way handle this? Can I just go to my dealership the original key my VIN is assigned to and Tumbler/cylinder?
If i swap out the ignition cylinder/tumber, does it affect the EWS? Does anything need to be reprogramed?

Keys/tumbler need to match the VIN/EWS/ECU -

The EWS is aligned with the DME/ECU.

They keys/locks are linked to EWS. There is no direct link between keys/locks and DME/ECU.

DME is aligned to EWS which is VIN specific. Keys and EWS are then VIN specific.
DME is VIN identified but not the driver, the key codes are in the EWS.

Wait... what?

Didn't you just say there is a direct link in your post? If the keys/locks are linked to EWS and EWS is aligned with the DME/ECU, there is a direct link.

yea I'm confused now.

So if the person did infact change the keys , in order for him to do so.... he would need a Key that matches the Tubler/Cylinder, EWS, and DME>

what if he got a new cylinder/key and just did an EWS Delete chip? is that possible?

LOL!! For the reading impaired - VIN encoded EWS and ECU have to ‘talk’ amongst themselves, EWS wins, it holds the codes, checks the keys.
Unless you know definitely different for 1996+ EWS II - http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/BMW_EWS.pdf

It’s not that difficult. Read my post carefully.

The tumbler only has to mate with the key. The key needs to be recognized by EWS module, which comes from factory with 8 key chip ‘codes’.

OBDII is flash memory and yes EWS ‘conversation’ can be coded out of ECU.

That key is suspect #1!
No branding on any of the 9 BMW sourced key that I have.

My bet is that key (aftermarket) contains a mimicked factory key code and was cut from the Valet key.

Go to Dealer and buy two factory keys.
