Default Engine coolant temp, plausibility

Had this code show up. Turns out the thermostat was stuck closed. Replaced the thermostat.

A week goes by, and boom same code appears again.

What could else be the issue? Have I looked at everything?

Thanks

Have you replaced the sensor? I'd expect a plausibility code to come from the sensor, not the thermostat, even if it was stuck closed.

Ah, I haven't checked that, and that's more than likely it.

Thanks

To add, I see that there are 2 sensors #4 and #18. I believe that #18 is what controls the temp sender from what I read.

So more than likely it's going to be #18 that I need to replace for get rid of this code. Since #4 is pretty cheap and easy to do, I'll replace that as well. The thermostat and coolant are both already brand new.

Now if i could just find a DIY on # 18?

You are left pretty much going back in as if you were doing the thermostat.

One of the reasons I just add it to any cooling refresh. One time in and done.

I had that code, fixed the thermostat, still got the code. Oh well, not really that big of an issue.

It is #18. It is under the air box and a pain to get to. Some people managed to change it out by not taking it all apart but I took the box out and cleaned my idle control valve as well. #4 does not communicate to the OBC. It is a thermal switch that runs the aux fan. I changed #18 and my code went away.
