Itís your father in law; depending on your relationship, he may give it to you for $10k, given itís the holiday season.

Verts are a ton of fun in the summer time.

Part of the joy of the forum is this consistent theme. Only a coupe, only a manual, only imola, etc...

For me - which is all that matters (to me) - the convertible is a significantly better car - I bought it to drive with the top down, listen to the sound of the motor, feel the wind and the sunshine and enjoy the handling at just enough over the speed limit to pump the heart on those roads that are not straight or level. Thus a vert is perfect. Were I pushing this car to it's limits, perhaps I'd long for the coupe's handling etc. The reality is the car pushes me to my limits and leaves a lot there that I can't reach.

I whole heartedly agree with those that say 12k for a well cared for vert is a reasonable price. As a second, "fun" car - I don't think you could find a better one.

My real issue with this is dealing with in-laws - if that's not a hot button for you - I'd say take it out on some Georgia back roads and if you're not sold after that I'd be surprised.

I do like that I know the history of it and it's really clean. My plan was to hit him with 10k and see what he says. It's not actively for sale, but I know he never drives it. Almost 80 and I think he prefers the automatic in his 33 Ford Vicky.

We get along well but I've never known him to give family a bug discount on anything, but it is Christmas so who knows...

crwharton, thanks for that point of view. I appreciate it.

Double grey vert, the absolute low man on the totem pole of E46 M3 desirability. I hope you never want to sell it.

If I had the choice between the grey vert and that black car I would take the vert all day long. The hate grey interiors get is over blown, I have a silver on grey which I think its pretty boring but I wouldn't not have bought my car because of the interior color. I mean grey is kinda boring but its not like its a weird or ugly color, its just plain. You will also have the knowledge of where this car has been and who took care of it. If you want to do track days obviously the vert is not ideal. I think when it comes to these situations if it feels right go for it. If its a car you think you might regret purchasing hold off and find another. If he is not actively selling it you can always approach him later.

Don't buy the black coupe..

Price is way too good to be true.

Shitty wheels, tinted headlight and tail lights, shitty paint, and he didn't even give any
information about the car. Probably needs a cooling system, subframe, vanos, bushings, suspension.. etc ... etc...

You have had verts in the past and enjoy them so why not just buy this one? Not sure if I would lowball my father-in-law if he is trying to sell you at a good price. Don't worry about selling in the future as all of the depreciation has been hit. You would not lose a dime owning and enjoying this car for a few years. (aside from maintaining)

Also, do you have a Factory Five now? I built a FF Roadster a few years back.
