Hey, I'm in Canada so it probably won't be relevant to you. We only have one choice for basic car insurance in my province, a government run corporation (ICBC). I'm not sure if they report to CarFax but I don't care about the resale value of my car as I'm planning on keeping it forever. The claim was under my Comprehensive insurance so my premiums are not affected.
Even if I didn't have Comprehensive, I get one free accident under my Collision coverage due to my accident free driving history.
