Default Re: E36M3 Regression Analysis - Purchase Price Findings

My first and only M3 so far:

1998 4-dr 5-speed, Hellrot (red), 155K miles, paid $3800 near Ft. Hood Texas.

Seems to be all stock except shifter, stock exhaust which I prefer.

Needs hood & roof repaint, otherwise OK exterior.

Driver seat some wear, rear seat leather hardened and cracking a bit.

Had no maintenance history.....

3rd gear syncros gone, cannot upshift fast, have to double-clutch down.

Scariest thing is low oil pressure at idle, hot day, engine fully hot PLUS high copper and lead in oil analysis, seems to me like it needs bearings.

Needs windshield and needs some speakers replaced

Needs secondary air system fixed

Already did or had done:
front shocks
hood shocks
one power steering line leaking
vanos oil leak + valve cover gasket
one window regulator
seat recline fixed
headliner
rear suspension bushings
parking brake shoes
radiator replaced

1997 2 door 5 speed, Alpine white on Dove interior.

150,000miles

No a speck of rust, nice paint but has a few rock chips on the front.

Interior 6/10

AA intake and Exhaust

Drove really great but I did a full suspension upgrade anyways.

Arizona car but was imported to Canada in early 2000.

Paid $7800 Canadian in July/2016

WHATS IT WORTH???

1998 Silver/Dove Coupe track/street
108k miles
74k on motor
NOT A DING ON THE CAR
OEM Lightweight Wing
Head gasket and valve job last year... did not overheat
Oil pan gasket, nut welded, pump updated, baffle installed
Rear sway tabs reinforced
Subframes reinforced
Cooling system uograded
M5 clutch/UUC flywheel
Schrick cams, ARP studs, VAC valves
Dual fuel pumps
Stocktech BBK front and rear OR STOCK (MY CHOICE)
MCS 3 way suspension OR GC/Koni set up (MY CHOICE)
Euro long tube headers/AA track pipe/AA cat back
3 SETS OF KOSEI K1s with PSS, Toyo RR and some other tires that are done
Recaro SPG X2, Schroth 6pt AND Stock manual vaders in great shape

I am pretty set on buying it BUT I have no idea how to price it. He does not have the car listed but wants to sell. I am thinking 15k for the car with GCs and stock brakes, maybe 17k for EVERYTHING?

I would say less due to the motor not being original to the car. Also a lot of times mods lower the value of these cars, not increase it.

Id say 12-14k

Appreciate the reply... My plan is to put it mostly back to stock. Car is immaculate.

Tbh it sounds like the car has had a rough life. Its already blown a motor and the new head gasket at that low miles is a little worrying.

1998 Technoviolet M3 Convertible:

5 speed
Black leather interior
I'm the 2nd owner from a retired lady (drove it 6 miles roundtrip from home to work since new)
129k miles when I bought it and now at 131k miles
Recent basic maintenance by mechanic:
- Oil
- Filter
- Air filter
- Check fluids
- Car Inspection

No leak of any fluids
Everything works exception of a broken foglight and glovebox button (fixed)
Dealer maintained since day 1
PO is still trying to retrieve the history records besides the carfax provided
Bought Hardtop and a Wind deflector

Paid $5800, what is it worth?
