Default Diecasts from The film 'Cars'

My son is obssessed with the film 'Cars'. So I started to buy some basic models for him. Over the last 3-4 weeks I thought I'd start buying him more of the original models. I cannot believe how much these things are worth. I've been outbid several times on eBay ($200 was my limit for largish loose lots). Even on sealed packets I've either been outbid or I just cannot justify paying anything from $25 to $500 for a single unit. large lots that are sealed I've seen go for $3500

Are these highly collectible now? Anyone else here collecting these for themselves or for their kids? Just curious that is all.

2 boys aged 4 and 2. So Cars is a perennial favorite. Toys, clothes, bedsheets, books, you name it. I don't even know if I have the die cast models you mention.

I've got lots of Cars merch. for my 3 boys, ages 1, 3, and 5.

Just stuff we got at Target, and all of it is pretty trashed by now.

What kind of stuff is valuable?

Frank, Bessie, lizzie, the tunerz cars, various colours & liveries of mcqueen.

Also I think Mattel are on their 5th-6th editions. So all the older cars are 1st, 2nd and 3rd editions. 1st and 2nd editions command $$$$$. Rare twin packs also command high dollars

A coworker collected these. He had hundreds of them - all different. I totally believe the pricing. It's like Magic cards. Or tulips. A few years from now a full set will go for $100.

........$20 sets from target are now selling for $40-$50. They did a white car from the first film. On eBay it sells for $695 because of apple logo. The set without that one car sells for $200-$300.

They're super popular. I love the Car's series and have a McQueen model on my desk, but my little 4 year old cousin is obsessed with the movies. My uncle was telling me that finding Cars' toys are pretty hard
