Default Re: PFC Rotor Major Failure

I'm curious how PFC reacts to this. Seems like two similar failures.

I can understand PFC not providing warranty but they should at least try and diagnose the cause of the failures. Maybe there is commonality between the two failure mfr dates?

Usually cracks are caused by excessive/rapid heat cycles. Even if you're standing on the pedal into each corner two events seems like an early failure.

Love my pfc pads but I have not really heard a lot of good things about their rotors lately. Could just be the bad stuff getting reported, but, itís making me think twice about my search for bbk options and looking at pfc.

Yeah the 08 pads are great, but Iíve heard their DD rotors wear out/crack quickly. I donít know how many days the two POs put on the rotors of my 05, but they only have micro cracks, nothing of concern. I really want a ST Trophy BBK but itíll be out of my price range for a while, so stock blanks on the track car should do for now.

Big shoutout to bimmerworld for starting a claim with PFC. Pictures were sent over and will likely have to send in both front rotors & hats for inspection

What were the ambient temps like? I see you are running full slicks, aero and no cooling.

Sucks to see man. I'm sure you've called PFC, Justin in their motorsport division is the guy you want to talk to.

Love to hear that Bimmerworld is standing up for you. Sorry for the damage, glad nobody got hurt. Love my PFC DDs, but they're a bit long in the tooth, might rock some Centrics this season.

That sucks. Not the first time I've seen a PFC DD rotor failure...certainly the first time I've seen it result in an accident. Usually its a PING! and then the brakes start shuddering violently. The theory is the rotor is hot and then ABS hammers the rotors which causes a crack across the rotor face...not like the failure in the picture.

Whats left of the rotor in the OP, looks like it was pretty well worn down? That's super fast if it was 2 events old. I had a UUC BBK on my 330Ci which used the E46 M3 rotor. I went from an OEM euro rotor to a PFC DD rotor. I was surprised when it lasted less than a year of track and street driving. They had really bad heat cracks and were below the min thickness. Could be the pads (used an early PFC83 or something) or the BBK (UUC...says a lot) but I'd expect the rotor to last.

I'll just say it...I think these rotors don't last and don't perform as advertised. Just like the D-Force LTW5 wheels aka Death Stars. Both were examples of a ticking time bomb in my head. But that's just me.

I got 30+ days out of my Stoptech BBK front rotors as a reference point.

This is 1 event on a new set of the same rotors as OP. Pretty rough if you ask me.
