Default Rattly bad-idler-pulley sound coming from tranny area?

I've got a weird, rattly bad-idler-pulley sound coming from tranny area. Only on startup, when idling hot or cold., It goes away after about 20s. Anyone know what that is?

If it's a manual, I would suspect a bad throwout bearing... Sounds like mine did before I swapped mine...

def sounds like a bad throw out bearing. Does the noise go away with the clutch in? is it all the time?

Is it a rattle or whistle/shrilling noise? I was getting a whistle/shrilling noise upon cold startup that went away when the car warmed up and it turned out being my idler pulley. The bearings in the pulley eventually seized up and shredded my drive belt. Hope this helps.

If it is an smg, the smg pump hose leaking can cause this.

Thanks guys. Idler pulley were the first thing I checked. All ok.

It's a 6MT. Throw out bearing is a good call.

How did you check this pulley? I tried spinning mine and all seemed well, but it was indeed a faulty pulley. This pulley spins at such high rates of speed when the car is running you can't reproduce this by hand. I think the pulley only cost me around $30 so this is a cheap replacement part.
