Default M3 Instrument Cluster

Will an instrument cluster from an SMG M3 fit and works on a manual (6 sp) M3? Or will I have lights on ? I have heard people saing they lost their computer information (MPG, trip, etc) after they change thier instrument cluster. Anyone knows?

Quick answer - no. The section for the SMG display is different and the wiring harness to it is different. The clusters also have to be coded to the LCM and the car, and the mileage correction has to be done or the odometer tampering dot will turn on.

Why would you want to do this?

One of the buttons of the instrument cluster of my car (Imola Red 2001 M3 Convertible ; 6sp) is not working. It is the left botton and the one I use to reset the oil interval mileage. I though replecing the whole cluster with a used one will be cheaper than trying to fix that at the stealership.
