Default Chicago Area lurker checking in

Hey all,
Might have the longest lurker status...registered 3 years and this is my first post!

The reason I joined was to learn about the E46 M3. I'm looking for 'My' weekend/nice day car and have dwindled the list to 3:

'05 C55 AMG
'05 Vette <----I know, don't laugh too hard
E46 M3

This is a great site and I will probably buy from this site. I like the idea of slightly modded, enthusiast owned M3's.

I currently have a 2010 Merc C300 Sport 4matic (wife's car) and I drive a company vehicle. I do like MB's, we're on our second.

So, alas, the green light has been given for a 2011 purchase. Still have yet to drive an E46, but that will happen this summer when I try the transmissions and figure out which one I want. Leaning towards manual, but driving them will show me the way to go.

Anyways, just wanted to give a shout out to this community, it's been a wealth of information.

Cheers

I've have an E46 (2002) with 34,000 miles on it. It's one of my favorite cars I own.

I think you'd enjoy it. I've always had stick cars but now I lean toward SMG in the BMWs.

All up to you though... the E46 is a fun car to drive, but forget about in the winter.

I've found the E46 M3 to be one of the best winter cars I've ever had. (with winter tires of course). In fact, drove right around a minivan that was stuck on an incline...the right tires make all the difference.

Doesn't matter though...OP is looking for a weekend car.

Default Re: Chicago Area lurker checking in

Hello all, I just wanted to resurrect this and share my stoke. Thank you in advance for indulging me.

After starting this thread, I came close on an E46M, but I bought a lightly modded '04 Corvette and enjoyed it very much until this June when I sold it for more than I purchased it for. After about a month My wife and I both missed our weekend drives with the top off, I missed horsepower, and I missed having my car to play with, clean, maintain and hoon. The entire time I owned my Corvette, I read up on M cars, looked for them on the road and admired them, knowing it would be a long time until I could afford one.

When the time came for me to find my new weekend cruiser, I knew there was only one option, an M car.

So, while I loved corvettes (and still do), I decided to go down to Enthusiast Auto Group and talk with the experts to decide what would be the best fit for me, my wants and my abilities. I drove the E46 and an E92. Both were great cars, but very different, IMO and the E9x was better suited for me. I had a great experience and learned a lot in those few hours. I wish they would have had what I was looking for.

Here I sit, having just taken delivery 3 days ago from California of a 2009 Space Grey E93, DCT with a Dinan suspension and all the appearance mods already installed that I was going to do anyways. We've been fortunate enough to have a few nice nights that allowed me to experience the car. Now I know what you all are so stoked about with these machine.

Looking forward to learning more, contributing more to the forums and sharing the modification process. For now, I'm just waiting for UPS to show up with my Macht Schnell Test Pipes, ESS Tune and my Window Tint appointment in a few weeks!

Cheers
