Default Tvan's E46 Journal

Recently I had to opportunity to trade in my 1999 E36 M3 Coupe for an E46. Figuring that I might not have a chance to find another one in the same condition, I took the plunge and am now the new owner of my first E46 M3.

Specs:
2003.5 M3 Coupe
6 Speed Manual
Carbon Black
Black Nappa Interior
Brushed Aluminum Trim
Single Disc CD Radio
Premium Package
Cold Weather Package
Bi-Xenon Headlights

Purchase Mileage: 25,782

Aftermarket Modifications:
KW Variant 2 Coilovers
Brembo BBK
Active Autowerke SSK
Meisterschaft Catback Exhaust
K&N Intake (will be going back to stock)
HRE 3-Piece Wheels (not sure which model)
Vorsteiner Carbon Fiber Lip
AC Schnitzer Pedals & Shifter
Tinted Windows (probably 30% or darker)

I am the second owner of the car, it was originally purchased and owned in Illinois. It was maintained as a garage queen and show car, until it was traded in to Lake Forest Sportscars, a suburban Chicago exotic car dealer. The car was then bought by a local business that specializes in exotic/luxury car sales, run by two former owners of Lamborghini Chicago that I have known personally for over ten years.

After one short test-drive I was unsure of whether I preferred the E46 to my E36, which I had happily owned for the previous two years. Now that I have had a weekend with the car, I am completely sure that this was the right way to go and am trying to catch up on everything I need to know about the E46.

First order of business was to remove the lip and raise the ride height by an inch. I do like lowered cars, but it would be impossible to make it in and out of my garage in Chicago, much less drive around the city with it slammed.

As purchased:

Next on the to-do list is to get the car ready for winter. I have a long commute to work, about 90 miles round-trip, but only drive one day a week. This week I should be getting a set of OEM style 67 19's and Blizzaks for the winter. I always like to have at least one set of original wheels and they will clear the brake kit. In the summer I will be moving to 18's, probably concave Apex ARC-8's.

Shortly I will be posting the lip and HRE's for sale, and the BBK might be on the market as soon as I can find OEM brakes to put on the car.

More updates to come!

Car looks great. Don't quote me on this, but I *think* you have the HRE C20 wheels. They look really similar, but I could be wrong.

They definitely looks similar, but I believe the C20 has fewer spokes. My best guess is that they are 540R, which is a discontinued style.

For sure! Do you ever make it out to chitownM meets?

I try to go at least once a month.

Oh wow nice pickup! Low miles and looks great. Those are some big brakes. Good call on removing the front lip. See you tomorrow!

I have never been to one sadly. Wednesday nights are always swamped for me. But if I ever do have a free Wednesday night, going to the ChiTownM meets is always at the top of my priority list, haha.

Thanks! Haha I was reading your M3 journal thread the other day on the train and then realized you were the same guy that I was talking to about the wheels.

Yea I hear that. I used to go a lot more but I started grad school this fall and even though I don't schedule classes Wednesday nights I tend to want to just go home and crash after work.
