I'm waiting a few years so my son is old enough and we are definitely getting a dog/mutt.
My sister's BF had a puppy that he could not care for. My wife and I were not necessarily looking for a dog, but took him anyways. He was appx five months old when we got him and well behaved. He is a bull terrier and pit bull mix. We absolutely love him and we are so glad we took him.

well said.

it is like some kind of badge of honor, macho pride thing. people puff up their chests and proclaim " this dog is pure bred!!".. wtf!? i always say wow that is great. how many times have you placed in a dog show? they just stare at me.

all of my dogs have been mixed and come from rescues. we even drove 150 miles to a specific breed rescue because we wanted a malamute/shepherd mix.

I used to be a big proponent of pure-bred dogs, and I still think that for the people who really value a breed standard it's a decent option.

However, after adopting our current dog from rescue, I would have trouble justifying not adopting. Everything I could possibly want in a dog, 50 dollar adoption fee and saved a pup that would have otherwise been destroyed.
