Default My E36 Automatic to 5 Spd Swap DIY! (Guide)

After 4 years of mods, upgrades, & meets...kinda of ran out of things to do, also got tired of hearing that my car was perfect except for 1 thing...yeah you guessed it...It's Automatic!
This past winter my wife's cousin & his girlfriend from Germany visited. His 24 year old platinum blonde, blue eyed girlfriend told me... driving an Automatic is like drinking Corona Light!

I have been wanting to do this for the last 3 years anyway, but was too afraid to attempt it,
especially with the worries of the check engine light, cruise control & fund-age!
I did my homework & researched it the last 2 years, with help of the various links, I purchased a donor car, then dove right in!

So, after I successfully completed the swap in the Spring of 2012, I decided to share my experience & help some fellow BMW enthusiast if they ever decide to do this.

Here is the link to my website:

http://mye36project5spdswap.weebly.com/index.html

Hope it helps all you fellow E36 owner's!

good luck,

Johnny

Thanks...some say it would have been easier just to sell my E36 & buy a 5 speed. They have also said I should of bought an ///M3, but I am kinda very attached to my car...& I did everything else to it, so why not just do the swap!
Definitely worth it!

thanks again,
johnny

That's why it is called a "hobby". As long as you don't ever use the word "invest"...

Very true...I see you have a Cosmos colored M, love that color!
There are all kinds of enthusiast out there, my brother for example: 47 years old, he has owned about 30 cars in his life time. Just recently 1 year to be exact, he sold his 2 owner mint Diamond Schwartz 88 ///M3 which he only owned for about a 1 1/2 years. He then bought a 72 Chevelle SS Convertible, I had a Chevelle SS about 20 years ago that I had fully restored, so he always wanted one. I warned him & told him that a muscle car is not a BMW, & that he might not like it. Well 6 months later he sold that car too! Now he owns another 88 ///M3 that he paid 10,000 more than his previous one!

Go figure....

I looked on your site.
It's a little disorganized.
Some nice pictures. Yah.
It was a lotta work. I see that. It could be presented a bit more cohesively.
Maybe I'm missing something.

Yeah...it is first time I worked with putting together any website & I guess it could of been put together a little more organized! More of a handy man/technician than a writer!
Maybe it's more of DIY guide than my actually DIY...
But because of the amount of information that is scattered about, out there. Figured putting it all together would be helpful, "ah" in some sought of way!
