Hey all,
I bought a set of V710s almost 3 years ago for my mostly-for-the-track-but-still-streetable E36. I managed to get all of 1 track day on them a few months later. The tires, like the car, have been sitting quite dormant for the last 2.5 years. (finished off a masters, got married, yada yada yada) The V710s have been sitting in the corner of my garage mounted to the track rims (not bagged or anything). The car had normal street tires on it while it sat. I'm looking to get the car up and going again for the SoW track day on the 7th. So the question I pose to those of you familiar with race rubbers: Should I pretty much chuck these tires? I've had one person ask if I could dig a nail into the rubber... which I can, a bit. He said I'd probably be okay, that they wouldn't be great, but they'd suffice. I've had another person say that there's no way they'll be any good, particularly since I didn't have them in any kind of sealed container. I'm inclined to believe that they're shot, but I figured I'd ask. I don't need race quality grip or anything, but I'd prefer them not to be like riding on plastic. Thanks, Som |

Use them. They'll be fine (no, not as much traction as new tires) as long as they weren't stored in sunlight during those 3 years.

Check for stress cracks around the sidewall as well... You should be good, and as mentioned as long as they weren't in the sunlight as well... Of course just use your discretion on it, if they look crap, they probably are crap... Make sure they're not dried, it is rubber of course, just like bushings, they do have a shelf life, especially if they just sit.
