Default Failing water pump-UPDATE!

My water pump is on its way out. I found dried coolant all over the shroud, and has been accompanied by a cold start rattle. I would like to hear from people running the saleri or Re manufacturered pumps. IMO they couldn't be worse than the OEM....My car only has 43K on it.

My pump went at low miles too. The saleri pump which if you look around on here I did a review on. Is pretty much a re-branded Lasso water pump. Has the metal impeller.

I only stick to factory or oem for mechanical replacements. There are many reseller's who have these parts available at a fraction of dealer prices.

That being said I do not have any experience with the brands you have mentioned. The down side to 3rd party products is that you may be doing the job at sooner than you might want to.

The relatively small cost savings will be negated at that point. 2c

Don not to be sarcastic....but sticking to OEM when it is poorly desinged is something I would rather avoid. I'm not an anomaly here, as I have read of other early failures. Very frustrating when my DD is a F150 with 175k and counting. That's the vehicle that should need a water pump. Good thing that M is soo fun to drive, we sure deal with alot owning these cars.

I have thought about that logic as well, but I have come to grips with the issues to be had with the material that make up BMW cooling systems.

After failures in my e34 and identical ones in wife's e39: I started replacing cooling parts as a preliminary step in every BMW I have owned since then.

I will say I have never had to replace cooling parts more than once. And since I've been sticking to the blue stuff in my cars< for the past 4 years or so> the cooling system wear has been top notch. The cooling system in my own e39 is a testament to this based on the type of mileage the new owner is racking up.

If a 3rd party part goes belly up on me - which they have - I would kick my self in the nuts, because it would have been my fault (or so I would would be nagged). Oem goes belly, pretty much nothing I could have done (or so I will tell myself).

FYI, the OEM water pump has been redesigned.

Also keep in mind that there have been issues with the 3rd party water pumps too. Based on what I've read, I will be going OEM when the time comes.

Search this forum for more info.

I replaced my water pump around 50K with a OEM unit. The pump has been redesigned with a bigger shaft.

My original water pump starting weeping coolant around 60k miles. I was lucky and it lasted all the way to 100k miles. For the replacement and like the others have said, I also used a BMW pump just for that bit of insurance. I bought the ECS Level 3 cooling system kit, plus a new fan clutch along with a new hose or two. Expensive, but it's good for another 100k miles!

06+ cars come with the updated water pump, if memory serves me correctly. That is the current OEM part, which is far more durable.

If there is one thing that will fail on a BMW, it is the cooling system.

I consider this a cost built into any BMW that I have not under warranty.
