Default Hesitation at 4k?

This is going to sound noobish but today while driving the car lost power at 4k and then snapped back at 4500-5k. I was shifting from second to third and the engine just went retard on me, then powered back up. I know this isnt a lot of info but any ideas?

Has it repeated? Anything done to your VANOS (maintenance or repair)?

I tried to repeat it but so far nothing. No work on the VANOS yet and that was my first thought. Car is going down in a few weeks for a suspension refresh so I may have to pull it and see.

Codes? Something like that should have thrown a code, even if the CEL didn't come on. I would check to see if there are any stored.

If you have a CEL, read it. If not, change your fuel filter and see if it continues.

at what age does the VANOS start messing up? I am thinking to just go ahead and get it done anyway, regardless of what may be causing the problem. I'll just have to push the shark injector purchase off for a bit..

Slow down. Did you pull the codes? Has it repeated? Replacing things for the sake of replacing things is great for a restoration, but it can add problems too...

VANOS failure will not cause hesitations like that.

Ignition problems will easily trigger a CEL. If you don't have any CEL's, what you're describing is exactly what happens when you have fuel delivery problems.

Change your fuel filter if you don't have any codes.
