Hi All,
Problem that sensor data is not ready after resetting fault code. How long does engine have to collect data for sensors to be read? Emission station's readiness Monitors show Catalyst, Evap System, Oxygen Sensor is incomplete/Not ready. Have taken to emission station twice with same not ready problems. I had a cylinder 3 misfire code. Used Torque on Android/bluetooth adapter. Reset the light. I have had no problems or fault codes since the reset. Have driven 200+ miles after reset. Highway, start and stop city, and leaving it setting awhile during the 200 miles. Is the computer screwed up after using Torque that I need a BMW tech service? Cheers, Kevin |

Maybe I am slow today, but I cannot understand your writing. Can you try to describe the problem better? Also give some details like year of your car.

The Drive Cycle Readiness checks are from a 1999 BMW M3 with 54,405 miles.
I need to know how long I have to drive before the status turns from incomplete/not ready to complete? The guy performing inspection says drive it 100 miles and come back. That was not enough. The Virginia emissions test will NOT pass if there are any incomplete/not ready status. On Torque Pro, there is a display called "Drive status since DTC clear". The status on that Torque Pro display matches exactly the computer print out he gave me. Now that I found the the correct display in Torque, I know if I have any incomplete before going to the emission station. |

Gosh. A tough one. 100 miles doesn't do it.
I think you might be referring to open and closed loop conditions. It sounds like your DME may be in an open loop state OR Drive status since DTC clear. I have the Torque App on my Android phone. I'll tell you what I get, when I can.

That app will not harm anything. I suggest just doing a full clear reset with a proper tool, closing all your ports up and driving the car. It takes less than 100 miles to be ready for testing. Do not plug anything in during the driving. Do your driving and then go to the SMOG station. Oh, and drive it hard some... all the way to redline. |

Yep, that's why I asked the year of the car, he said "OBD" I thought I was about to learn something new about my car!

Hard to imagine you haven't completed the necessary drive cycle(s) in 200 miles, unless that was all one or two trips (I think you need a certain number of cold starts). I've never cleared codes with Torque, but Nitram might have done so; maybe pm him to see if he's done that and if his display pulls up any incomplete tests.
Thanks for finding the drive cycle display; I never knew that existed. I don't know if these are correct, but various searches for BMW drive cycle suggest that you need to hold 40-60mph for some time (15+ minutes, maybe) to do the cat test and possibly O2 test. And one post said the cat test may have to run multiple times. Then again I can't imagine a place where I've ever legally and safely held 40-60mph for 15 straight minutes since clearing codes with a Peake tool, so maybe that one is false.

Had the same problem on my 99. I eventually found this http://www.europeantransmissions.com...0Procedure.pdf (second page). I followed this to a tee and when I went in it worked. The 40-60 was hard to do, but living in the country does have certain advantages.
