Just picked up 02 M3. Few questions

I am back to e46! I went from Supercharged 330i to e39 540 and now back to M3. This car is RAW! I love it. It's imola red with red seats. 6MT with 51k miles.

1. During driving, driver's side mirror shakes. Not the housing, but mirror itself. Is there an easy fix for this?

2. After car warms up, I hear some rattle/shake in mid section of my car as I am releasing the clutch. I haven't changed under for guibo/center drive shaft bearing but it doesn't really sound like it. Could it be something inside tranny?

Oh the noise only happens of 1st and 2nd gear at low speeds

Don't know about #1, but I think the noise you describe in #2 may be typical. Mine does somehting similar.

either that, or we both have the same bad part...

For #2, mine does that too on cold starts, but mine's smg so not sure if this applies to how you're releasing your clutch when accelerating after cold starts. I give it less gas/accelerate slower after I start the car. It usually only happens when the engine is cold within a minute or so after starting the car. Yeah, it makes a rattle and you think something is falling off the car, haha.

For #1--this is common on these cars. My car has the same problem and after searching for an answer, the conclusion was the mirror mount develops play from the closing (slamming) of the door over time. It is more pronounced on the driver's side due to more use. The only solution is to replace the piece the mirror articulates on.

#2--This sounds like the beginning signs of a bad center support bearing. My car exhibited the same signs and then it got rapidly worse. Although, I would not expect the csb to go bad in 51,000 miles... There is not much else in the middle of the car that could make a noise like you describe (maybe a heat shield that is working loose).

Thanks for the feedback guys. I did notice small noise it at time of purchase but I drove down for 8 hrs and wasn't going empty handed lol

I will check heat shield and CSB over the weekend. I have a pit in the garage so it's super easy.
