Re: E46 M3 vs M4...driving feel?

Electric cars are making this vastly more apparent, but we're well past the point where faster = better to drive.

Re: e46 m3 starts then dies (possible ews)

Not the starter if it's firing and dying.

I doubt it's fuel pump wiring, if it's good enough to start up.

ECU defaults to cracking the TBs open if the ICV is no good, so I'd rule that out.

Re: e46 m3 starts then dies (possible ews)

EWS makes it turn on for half a second then immediately die. Doesn't sound like you're having an EWS issue.

Based on the symptoms, my guess would be fuel pump... but having replaced it 6 months...

Re: E46 M3 vs M4...driving feel?

IMO you should always get the smallest car that meets your practicality needs. Smaller cars are more fun to drive, handle better, more efficient, etc.

Re: Obioban's 2005 Imola Red M3 coupe (56K mass murder)

A no compromise solution would be if I could find an OE that uses brembo's 355x32mm (and/or 345x28mm) rotors that FCP stocks. TONS of cars come with brembo brakes stock these days, but none of them...

Re: E46 M3 vs M4...driving feel?

The thing that bothers me most about our e39 M5, every time I drive it, is the size. Then the worse steering feel, then the torque, which makes it less involving to drive hard. I'd actually sell the...

Re: Obioban's 2005 Imola Red M3 coupe (56K mass murder)

... yes.

But the car is lighter, ducted, these rotors are larger and floating, and being slower doesn't necessarily mean you're easier on brakes.

Re: Cobra Nogaro picture thread!

428mm.

But unless you're a basketball player, you'll be happy with the Nogaro specific slider mounts-- I'm 6'4 and now have space above my head with a helmet on (used to have to recline to fit in...

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

Side note:
The stock e60 M5 back seat leg room is actually pretty bad-- significantly worse than the e39. But, I realized a couple of years ago when sitting in a non M e60 that that was entirely...

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

In all our cars, my wife can fit comfortably in front of the reverse facing baby seat and I (6’4) can not. My wife can also fit behind me in all cars, and I can fit behind her, if someone needs to do...

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

I estimate I’m ~10 years out on needing a bigger wagon. Don’t plan to go larger till back seat legroom becomes an issue.

Fine, fine, 6600. I never find myself tempted to bang her off the rev limiter, though-- it just kind of feels flat up there to me.

... I don't think it's ownable (reliability wise), and its...

I don't know how to describe it, but they kind of made my car feel complete. Maybe it's just because seats were the last big project I had planned for it, but I just feel generally happy...

Re: Post here if you've had a stock S54 crank damper fail

I feel like we need a new thread of “post here if your crank damper has failed with the stock clutch/flywheel”.

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

E39 m5 vanos is not catastrophic— just gets noisy and/or loses power-- doesn’t take out the engine.
E39 m5 doesn’t need rod bearings unless you spend a ton of time above 6500 rpm, which there’s no...

If I lived in Minnesota, I’d absolutely have a high ground clearance 4x4 for winter use.

Are you running snow tires?

With snow tires, the only limitation I ever feel I come up against is ground clearance.

... and I run snows on the suburban, too.

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

I used to have to recline to fit with a helmet. These days, with the sunroof free cf roof and buckets seats, I can fit two fists above my head in a proper upright seating position.

Car wise, I’m jealous of your heights. You effectively get 7 series space (same space as if I was driving a 7) with 3 series driving dynamics.

I mean, pretty clearly I’d go with an e46 M3 wagon... since I did.

Between the e90 and f80 m3, I’d go e90

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

For a shitty commute DD, I’d get some sort of EV.
For a dynamic commute, I’d get an e36 M3, e46 M3, or, dare I say it, e39 530i (and probably eventually s54 swap it).

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

How’s this as a fair statement: if I could only have one car, and it had to be an e9X M3 or e39 M5, I’d go e9X M3. I could never deal with the e39 M5 as an only car.

But, as a compliment to a...

The longer it’s been since I’ve driven an e9X M3, the better of an idea it seems to get one. :lolhit:

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

I think the e39 M5 is the most responsive to mods of all the NA M cars-- probably because the stock low specific output means it has tons of room for growth. BMW did all of the hard work of making a...

Re: E46 M3 vs E92 M3

Your e39 M is a touring, which drives hugely worse than the sedan (unlike on e46 or e91). Compromised rear suspension design, 270 lb weight penalty, air suspension. My brothers 528i touring felt like...

I don’t know if it has a stiffer chassis— never seen e9Xm numbers listed anywhere. The e60 M5 chassis is not stiffer than e39. E39 was abnormally stiff for it’s day. Suspension geometry between e9X...
