Swapped in a used ECU and checked the resistance across all 6 coil pack plugs - they were all 103.9 ohms. Then I coded it and reloaded my Evolve tune.

Fired up,...

Re: Value of S54 Long Block with Spun bearing

Closer to $1500. Depends on how motivated they are to sell it.

Re: Timing tool locking pin doesn't fit!

You need to lock the damper which locks the crank in place. If you pull off the VANOS and the crank is not a TDC...you'll have another headache on your hands.

Lock the damper in TDC (the hole with...

Claim is one thing. If he wants close to $1500 for it, I think he should pull the valve cover and prove that the top end is fine.

Re: Value of S54 Long Block with Spun bearing

Besides the possibility of getting metal chunks through the oil pump, the rod end cap can get loose and hit the oil pump or pipes. You want the oil tubes and pan to be intact. Otherwise itís a...

Re: Value of S54 Long Block with Spun bearing

At most, $1500 with all accessories. I wouldnít pay much more than $1000 unless they know the extent of the damage.

Crank and rods are toast. You could replace a rod but then you should rebalance...

Timing tool locking pin doesn't fit!

100% agree...lol (I kid)

You do want to lock the crank at TDC before taking it all apart.

Got any more pics of the homemade headers?

What size tube? Do I need both 2.5" and 2.25" SS tubing?

Re: Best BBK for E46 M3

Iím sure thereís some fudge factor designed but you really need to make sure you maximize the contact area.

The lugs just hold the wheel against the hub. Not sure what the term is but the hub is...

Re: Best BBK for E46 M3

Thatís what itís doing. Thereís a lot of force going through the hub in multiple directions.

You might get by on the street not using hub centric wheels or spacers but it wonít last long on track...

Re: Valve adjustment + vanos work : Engine locks when turned manually

I meant on the hub that bolts onto the end of the cam. The timing sprocket just slides over that hub so it can rotate independently to the cam. The surface usually shows some wear from the back of...

Best BBK for E46 M3

The biggest problem is while the hub lip is 10mm, most wheels have a chamfered bore.

With a 5mm spacer you might only have 1-2mm of engagement between the wheel bore and hub lip.

A 5mm to 9mm...

Re: Valve adjustment + vanos work : Engine locks when turned manually

Makes sense now.

The splined shafts connect the camshaft to the timing chain sprocket. The timing chain sprocket rotates on the hub. The helical gears can change the orientation of the timing...

Re: Best BBK for E46 M3

Exactly. I once dealt with hub spacers and itís kind of a pain.

The fitment issue involves the spokes hitting the bottom of the caliper. Adding a 12mm spacer to a 17x9.5 et35 wheel makes it quite...

Thatís probably your best option. Itís kind of a pain if you need to remove the fan. And you have to buy more mounts.

Re: 2003 M3 overheating THE WEIRDEST THING

One thing Iíd be curious about is how much carbon build up do you have on your pistons and valves.

Iíve seen some motors have a lot of carbon build up on the piston crowns. That can cause a motor...

Itís a Canton Racing 2L tank. Itís great...only 2 downers is itís hard to see the water level without a flashlight and itís hard to fill without spilling due to its location.

Re: 2003 M3 overheating THE WEIRDEST THING

It sounds like youíre throwing parts at the car. We all do it but it gets expensive.

I think replacing the condenser is a good idea if itís beat up. Not sure I would change the aux fan though.
