I rebuilt stock rears and st40 fronts before I went to track. Really easy to do. I wanted them buttoned up before pushing them.

Normally for street use, you dont need to.

Yeah, you actually need quite a bit of vertical space to get the mounts out, so an engine bar (i got mine for like $70 on amazon) from top and dropping the subframe (4 bolts) is a good way to go.

Condition of tie rod ends, both inner and outer, fcabs, control arm bushings also play into the feel, not just the coupler donut. A full front end refresh is usually required to tighten everything...

Either use jack/wood in front on engine mount arm or borrow an engine...

You can look for used 50-75k mile units, a lot of them still go strong at close to 100k.

The valve itself can not leak oil to the outside of the engine unless the seal or the threads are not clean. And the valves themselves don't normally fail.

Have you pinpointed front vs rear of car? You say sounds like clutch area, but then mention checking...

For intake side, you have to remove the intake manifold and the fuel...

Sounds like a bearing is going somewhere. Can you have someone rev the engine while you listen around engine bay to isolate from drivetrain?

Or are you sure it's from the drivetrain and not in...

Tech inspections seem to be a joke these days with event organizers (speedsf, track masters, etc), where the driver just ticks all the boxes "no problems", without inspecting/knowing...
