The people who say the 20% sucks are those who are vehemently against any sort of throw reduction. The actual machining on the AS kits is supposed to be great and result in very precise shifts. So...

Re: The Official E46 M3 Oil Analysis Results Thread

So if it's stable (which is a big assumption granted), would M1 5w-50 be the "ideal" year round oil for the s54?

They've literally advertised the oil thing themselves. I think they're banking on a few things:

Wagon is a good bit heavier, no?

M52 non-TU would only be the 97 and 98 models. 99 - 00 will be M52TU (which is basically a semi-DBW M54, so no M50 manifold or S52 cams there). M54b30 with...

Re: Evolve ECU error

Evolve locks their DMEs from reads. You'll either have to go back to stock or BDM it. Even if you BDM it, the program is modified such that some maps are moved around and axes flipped.

Stock it almost certainly goes through the SMG ECU. E46 cluster doesn't do a whole lot directly; in many ways it's just a "display" for CAN bus data.

Re: MK60 DSC thread

If you have the button you're probably good as far as wiring goes. Most 330s didn't come with TPMS.

It will work with the non-M MK60, though it's questionable as to how optimal it would be. And SMG might throw a complication in things now that I think about it. If you can get your hands on an M3...

Re: CA Smog check with SAP delete? Will it pass?

I've never actually had it set to ready if the SAP was turned off in the tune. As best as I can tell, the DME has to think it's turning on the SAP before it will set it.

*If* the SAP was deleted...

Re: CA Smog check with SAP delete? Will it pass?

I would probably just leave it installed, delete the SAP codes, and pull the fuse for the SAP. Did this on my car, SAP always shows as ready, and it will still activate if I plug the fuse back in (so...

I think there is a limit to when it can be reset, but I don't know the exact number of miles that need to be driven. You can probably force it back to 15500 if you edit the eeprom (0 out 0x30 -> 0x35...

If you're willing to give MSSFlasher a try, you could try flashing a version of the CSL software modified to work with the non-CSL bootloader.

Re: E box fan mystery

3-pin is used in pre September 2003 cars, 2-pin after.

Just swap the connectors with your old fan. Even the 3-pin version uses only 2 of the 3 pins (on M3s anyway).

I would try recoding the LCM and seeing if the eeprom error goes away.

It sounds like the cluster is the root cause though. Maybe a short circuit somewhere.

Oh and I should have mentioned, to install a used LCM, all you have to do is reset the mileage to 0 with PASoft, then code it with your VIN and FA with NCS Expert.

Easy enough to replace the LCM / LSZ, yes. Just make sure it came from a similarly equipped car (xenons vs halogens) and has the same SW version or newer as your existing unit.

You sure the GM5...
