Re: What budget strut brace would you get?

Second the whiteline. Looks functional and solid for the price. The ebay one I'd be concerned about the threads in the middle stripping out, and the megan racing one just looks ugly imho.:parrot:

Re: How well does oil analysis predict rod bearing wear?

Re: Dead: Battery, alternator or power drain? No warning light

Have you tried tracking down the source of the drain by pulling fuses and relays? Start with the "mains" first, the high amp ones that feed the busses, and go from there.

If storing on jack stands the only thing I'd be careful about (aside from suspension etc) is making sure you're using jack pads or something to spread the load across the jack point.

Re: Rotational in play driveshaft, how much is normal?

That sounds about how much rotational input play my stock diff has a well. As much as I've read and discussed this, it seems like most people just shrug it off as the "m clunk" so you may not find...

Re: Want Paddle Shifters w/o a Sequential? Here you go!

I thought of the same thing, however, the amount of knowledge and straight up R&D time would easily balance out the kind of costs you'd spend on... doing a manual to SMG conversion. Never thought I'd...

Re: Drive train clunk nice explanation

A lot of the clunk in the e46 m3 specifically has to do with the differential from what I've gathered.

Oof. I have done the same before but a reverse jump. Try seeing if you can use something to communicate with the DME to see if it's alive, check spark, etc. I wouldn't think briefly reversing the...

Are you plugging the camera directly into the head unit to test reverse, or is it running through an extension to the trunk? I had a similar problem where video was cutting out because my extension...

Re: Is there any way to start a car with dead SMG pump?

Agree with the above, but to answer your question OP you will have to get under the car to manually disconnect and move the selector rod to get the trans in neutral. The hydraulics operate the clutch...

Re: 50k Mile Rod Bearing Service

Clarifying, you shouldn't start and let it idle even on 'worn in' bearings? (I know bearings are not really supposed to wear in, can't think of a better term.)

I'd be too concerned about the crank journal not being perfectly round. If it's not it could grab the bearing again.

Re: smoke coming out of oil fill cap

This. There's a cam lobe almost directly under the cap. And OP: Yes that's normal, that's oil vapor. You'll see it on any car that has a hot engine and you open the oil cap up while it's not running.
