I tracked mine for 6 years before doing the subframe, much of it over 100K. You should be fine, although obviously the reinforcement is recommended at some point.

This isn't surprising to me, I'm not sure I can think of anyone reporting a major failure, outside of minor leaking on an older unit. At 175k, I'd probably recommend replacing with a OE unit...

As much as I love this car, it's just too much $$$. At that price, if I need nice features, diesel, space for people/gear I'd have a serious look at a Touareg TDI. Pretty sure they start around 50k.
