Re: Bullet Proof VANOS S54 Project

Is it just me, or at no point in that video do you actually use the BMW timing tool and time the camshafts? :shifty:

Re: Driveshaft-to-Diff. Flange Install

Just clean the grease away from outside of the gasket mating surface (you got a new gasket, right? ;) )

Torque to spec. When you're torquing rod bolts, you actually lube them up on purpose to...

Re: Tophats seized on struts

Coilover time! :)

I'd suggest using a rag to protect the shaft while you clamp it with vice-grips, but it's not perfect.

Re: List: The Worst Driving/Operation Mistakes One Can Make on an E46 M3

Ah, yeah, definitely get Martyn's tool and re-map at least your primary throttle table to linear

Re: List: The Worst Driving/Operation Mistakes One Can Make on an E46 M3

Wat? You're saying you want 0% throttle to not be 0% throttle? Or that a light lift shouldn't be as much of a throttle closure?

Re: Running E85?

It will definitely not be as efficient - E85 burns at a different AFR

It will burn cooler, but that may not solve an overheating issue if you have one.

For track use, you'll either want a tool...

Personally I hated both throttle maps - both are now just linear :)

Don't shift in a hurry :P Not only is it easy to get the wrong gear, it's common to go right past the reverse lockout when you're hunting for second and under adrenaline.

Don't go looking for the...

Yes, the ground connection is under the carpet attached to the transmission tunnel.

...getting under the carpet is still a pain, though

Re: Just Bought, Having Problems

Bud, you probably have a bad module, bad ground, or just a shit connection on the bus somewhere. The best way to diagnose this is to get your OBD port working and ask the damn car.

This isn't a...

Hence the need to chase it back point by point rather than all at once.

Re: Just Bought, Having Problems

I literally meant work your way back. If INPA literally can't read anything, chase the OBD port harness back, and so on. All assuming you're up for a project, of course

Re: Just Bought, Having Problems

I would start with getting a BMW diagnostic tool like INPA and working your way back from there.

Brace yourself for comments about buying BMW's with the dash already lit up like a Christmas tree ;)

Re: Car running rough

Yeah, if you know you're running ~60% and the AFD is defaulting to 10 (or something), I'd look there. The Continental sensors are known to crap out, and the AFD might be running with 10% or the last...

Re: S52 injector replacement question

Yeah, I'd ask your tuner. If you're maxed out on duty cycle then OK, but even then they might have a given brand they prefer. Just stay away from Deatschwerks :)

OE Euro!

Megan does the job at a great price-point.. but all of that is assuming you don't have a perfectly good OE Euro set just sitting there

Re: S52 injector replacement question

Are you using forced induction? If not, just use stock Bosch injectors and move on with life. There's no reason to look into tuning a stock ECU for injector non-linearity, etc. if you don't even need...

The fitting/ bolt is just machined and anodized aluminum, so I'm not too concerned there aside from the thread depth on the banjo bolt.

I'd second the request for what you used.

Based on some Google-fu action, it looks like the drain plug bolt is an M14x1.5, correct?

I was going to use the following to extend the drain - some...

Based on what tap water does to showers and faucets here with all the minerals, I don't think I could be convinced to go that route :lolhit:
