I'll try it when i get home tonite. Makes sense that not having the unit plugged into the car would generate a faulty hardware message if it's not getting power.

perhaps this will help the next guy. The sensor for the auto headlights is NOT on the light switch as was previously suggested. The headlight sensor is integrated into the rain sensor...

yes- switch is in auto. It doesn't work like it used to (the lights are just always on.... there's no "auto" to it)

try a quick shot of starter fluid in the intake (after the air filer)- if it fires at all- it's likely a fuel delivery problem.
