We'll learn more facts on the foams effectiveness as a lone reinforcement as time goes on.

You paid way too much. Coilovers take 1-2 hours to install. RTAB's may have given them a hard time but doesn't mean they can charge you that much.

I think a reasonable amount would be 400-500.

Not likely to cause any drivetrain damage, just slop.



Sounds like a reasonable list, just make sure your VANOS parts list is complete. You can also throw new plugs in if you feel like it.

That's the dilemma. It's either sack up and weld + foam, or risk not being able to weld later on.

I had my own car reinforced with welded plates at 56k. At 115k I went in to do subframe bushings...

Welded plates aren't a permanent fix. Epoxied plates are even less permanent.

I think welded + foam is the most permanent you're going to get without a welded in cage.

The bushings are definitely shot. While it's not something you need to tackle immediately, I would definitely recommend replacing sooner rather than later.

If you're replacing everything then I would recommend a specialist if the local shop hasn't done this before. You will need the cam locking bridge and bottom end locking pin for timing.

I also realize you're talking about getting a job in the parts department. I think parts has marginally less BS to deal with since they don't deal with many problematic customers like sales...

The part is cheap and easy enough to replace that it just makes sense to throw a new one on and be done :twocents:

When you're reassembling the intake side, do you have the timing pin inserted in on that side? Same thing for the exhaust side. Bridge should absolutely sit flush with the head.

In my experience when the caps are giving me resistance it's because they are too dry. Apply 10w-60 to the cap exterior and retry. Usually does the trick.

If that works I wouldn't be too concerned...

Plates are not a lifetime fix :(

I wasn't suggesting catastrophic failure for every tab that falls out of the oil pump disk; but I do think you're pretty lucky when the tab makes it to the oil pan.

My current statistics indicate roughly 1 out of 10 broken tabs fall out of the oil pump disk.

The real problem is that broken tabs are becoming more and more common as these cars age; there's...

No harm at all! May get a hiccup here and there in the rpm's but you'll be fine. Takes all of 10 minutes to swap. :hattip:

Not swapping as in replacing. Switch placement of them; they're easily installed the wrong way without knowing. Caused my slow response code!

Just went through this. Try swapping the 02 sensors under the car, no more codes.

About to do the foam injection with the subframe completely out of the car.

Any reasons why I shouldn't do this that anyone is aware of?
