It’s all in the cluster, the e36 cluster can’t read the CAN from the MSS54 DME, it I’ll be soon swapping to the Z3 cluster which can read it

No I just happened to look down at the back of the alt and noticed some plastic deformed, so I pulled it and noticed it was melted, so that clued me off

it was a bad alternator.

Took it out to have it tested once I found that the plastic nut that holds the power wire on, was melted. Took it to Oreilley’s and he...

when the motor was assembled back in April last year, its was a used piece but was well cleaned before assembly. I would doubt that it would have that much crud in it, but you never know.. ive only...

theres a few small vacuum lines, also check your dipstick tube and the hoses from there,

going to assume you removed the intake manifold to do the ICV? are you using the M50 Manifold?

just wanted to give an update:

culprit found..

when i had no power at pin 26 on the x60004 DME plug, that essentially powers the DME via ignition...

pin 26 from that plug goes to the E36...

No continuity beep from meter

Yeah I didn’t see the small “m” light up in front of the V when Checking, all this elarge #’ are infact mV

For the ground that you told me to do, with the relay in, I ran a wire under the relay...

Checking with my multimeter, with ignition off, checking at the the #4 relay terminal with relay plugged in, I’m getting 5.4v, #30 is 14.2v and both 87 terminals show 37.8v.

Moving over to the 5...

and it makes 850 on the dyno but they backed it off to 750.. and this is 1993, all carbon fiber... geebus

Looks my my motor when I built it last year, with a big exception that I did not plate all the hardware lol, I replaced every seal and almost every bolt. I HATED doing the rod bearing bolt sequence,...

i completely rebuilt my motor last year...

here is what i used parts wise:

OE rods
OE pistons
Grant Rings (fitment is great, call them direct and buy them, vendors dont seem to keep them...

Ok update:

Got a proper multimeter that will beep for continuity. With the x60002 plug off the DME, I hooked a single wire to the pin 23, ran it to a known good ground.

Tested continuity first...

yeah you're right... not good with wiring or schematics at all.. mechanical yes, i can build anything, but wiring for me :thumbsdown:

Yeah so check this out, I unplugged x60002 and tested pin 23 for voltage with ignition OFF and I had 12.38v at the connector and at 4 on the main relay.

So this a ground issue with the wiring?

its not a fuse...

a major clue here is guys, the DME is NOT found by INPA.. so no power is getting to the DME... every fuse i have is good. We were trouble shooting this last night and think we...

Tested fuel pump today, totally fine, problem is the DME is not being allowed to turn on for some reason. We are trying to figure that out, and why

It’s not, I sent the DME to a friend to bench test, connected to INPA just fine

Yeah the NEW EKP RELAY did not fix it, going to pull the fuel pump today and see if any wires are burned
