Power steering pump? Whining is probably some sort of roller bearing. Iíd look at the belt pulleys.

If itís coming from the rear and speed dependent then Iíd suspect the diff. But a diff whine is...

As long as you could get those super small set screw in with loctite and not snap them off, the UUC shifter worked great for me.

Yes. Can't do it with 18s since the available sizes don't have a small enough OD to really gear it up like a 17 can.

Whenever I get to running TT, I plan to use 245/40R17 or a 275/35R17.

Regular worm hose clamps if youíre not worried about the OEM look. Just need to snug them on so they donít fall off and line them up right. Life is easier than fíing with the BMW clamps.

IMO, the shop knows youíre desperate and is looking to milk you for all the money youíll throw at them.

If you want it quick, throw in a used motor. Rebuilding it somewhat correctly will likely take a couple of weeks. Machine work, parts, assembly, shops focused on other jobs...

People flux core weld it or weld in the wind and get poor gas...

That's what I did with my track car. Just swapped in a 120k motor, did the bearings and it runs strong.

Most places are probably going to charge $1500-$2500 to do the R&R. If its an SMG, might be...

No...it will probably knock immediately or within a few hundred miles. It is likely that the rod end is ovaled. Can't really take an accurate measurement with the rod in the motor.

Thatís weird. I would at least want to know if the noise was rod knock. If it was then the rod needs to be replaced and the crank checked for straightness.

Not a good idea to pull it in with the bolts. You definitely strip the threads if you did that on an aluminum block M54.

Yeah, just put it in neutral and wiggle it on. Having the clutch plate centered perfectly helps a ton! That was probably what made it tough to get on.

Just grab the shaft and see if thereís play (thatís what he said!)...should be easy to find out if the CV is destroyed.

Besides a visual inspection, draining the diff oil and inspecting it for a glittery appearance might provide a clue.

If itís the driveshaft, I can get rebuilds for $525 plus a core charge.

Thanks. Will flashing back to stock be an issue since I've deleted everything except for the motor, ECU and instrument cluster (no EWS, emissions stuff, GM5 module)? What should I expect if I flash...

If Hassan is at stock weight, then I have a similar wt:hp ratio (2700:311=8.6). Itís a huge upgrade but still get pulled on by newer 911 GT3s and C7 vettes.
